“The diet starts tomorrow”. How many times have we promised ourselves that? Then life happens and things get in the way. You lack motivation, ideas and have no time to exercise.

Well this box is designed to help you overcome those problems. SKNY, the box for a Stronger, Knowledgable, New, You. The mission of the SKNY Box creators is to make being healthy simple and fun with their monthly subscription box.

I was really excited to receive a box from the SKNY box creators to review. The box was well packaged and was full to bursting with some great healthy food and ideas. Each box has healthy snacks to eat. Something to cook and something to do. They are made up of around 8-10 items including snacks, drinks, spice & recipe kit and a bespoke SKNY fitness plan. The sweet coconut and vanilla popcorn (sounds like a strange combo) I received in my box was absolutely delicious!

I was really impressed with the SKNY box and I loved the fitness plan included. It had 4 weeks of planned exercises with descriptions of how to do each exercise. Best of all they didn’t take up too much of my time and could easily be done at home and managed around family life.

SKNY box is a fantastic, fresh idea created for those of us who are busy and in need of healthy inspiration.  If you are in need of a change (and a gentle kick up the butt) then visit the SKNY Box website and sign up today with 50% off.

Carddies

Fairies Contents White Background.2jpg

I received this delightful little fairy set from Carddies in the post to review on Friday.  The timing was perfect giving my daughter the whole weekend to play with it.

Each Carddies set contains 12 double sided little Card People, 12 colouring pencils, 12 plastic stands, 1 double sided scene card and 1 box to keep everything in.  Each side of the Card People can be coloured in and one side of the Scene Card too.  The other side of the Scene Card has a picture of each figure with space below where their name can be written.

fairies set + 1 figure

My daughter opened it straight away, began giving the figures names and colouring them in.  She loved it.  In fact, it was played with all weekend.  She even took it along with her to her grandparents.  The great thing about the set is that, with a child’s imagination, the scenarios for bringing the fairies to life are limitless.

Aside from the fact that it kept my daughter busy most of the weekend my most favourite thing about Carddies is the size of the box.  It is perfect for popping in your handbag or kids bag and taking along whenever you might need something to keep children entertained.  And best of all everything fits neatly back in the box when done.

I would definitely recommend this toy.  It’s ideal for taking along whilst travelling or for giving as a gift.  I will be purchasing another for my daughter but with 12 to choose from the problem is deciding which one!

Pretty Muddy – Race For Life

Pretty Muddy – Race For Life hit Bellahouston park, Glasgow for the first time 3 weeks ago.  An all ladies 5k obstacle course raising funds for Cancer Research with the promise of getting very, very muddy.

I took part with group of 10 friends. Each of us challenging ourselves and happy to get down and dirty to raise money for our own individual reasons. All affected, in some way, by cancer. All of us hoping to raise as much as we could and make a difference in the fight against this awful disease.

IMG_1703.JPG

The event was spread over 2 days with thousands of ladies taking part and races starting every 15 minutes. The course had 12 obstacles along the way including climbing ropes, tunnels and a giant inflatable slide which dumped us straight into muddy water.

I’m not embarrassed to admit that I was feeling nervous before our group started but the fun warm up helped settle any nerves.  The 5k was fun and we had such a laugh crawling through muddy tunnels and getting soaked with freezing cold water.  The best was definitely saved for last!  The giant slide straight into a muddy pool of water.  It was so much fun we had to do it twice!  Our friend who was on photography duties was waiting half way round the course underestimating how fast we would be.

I felt so proud receiving my medal, covered from head to toe in mud, knowing that we were raising money for such a great cause and we even managed it in around 35 minutes.  I’m looking forward to next years already.

Real woman wear mud!

Fit Camp Paisley

Have you taken a walk through Barshaw park recently?  If you have I’m sure you will have noticed the 60 odd people jumping about like crazy being shouted at to do yet more star jumps all with a smile on their face.  Welcome to Fit Camp Paisley!  The FREE (yep that’s right) 4 week fit camp includes 3 sessions a week, nutritional education and individual guidance for everybody.  The aim of Fit Camp Paisley is to make us Renfrewshire residents healthier and fitter and to have fun whilst doing it.

fit club

I wont deny that at the first session I felt like running out the door when I saw the scales and the camera for “before” shots.  Instead I skulked in, tail between my legs, face burning red and faced the music.  We were weighed, had various body measurements taken such as body fat percentage, muscle mass and metabolic age.  These meant absolutely nothing to me until all was explained, in simple terms that everyone could understand.  These measurements will be taken again at the end of the 4 weeks and compared.

The fitness sessions are fun and the coaches very friendly and welcoming.  Goodness knows how they remember everyone’s names, but they do!  All levels of fitness and ages are welcome.  We are all on an equal playing field here as you are trying to improve yourself.  The excitement and energy from the team is infectious which keeps everyone coming back.  Did I mention it’s free?

Fit Camp Paisley sessions are on a Monday & Thursday at 6.45pm in Barshaw park and Saturday morning at 9am in Barshaw park.  Click here for more details and to register for a space.

5 Top Tips For School

SONY DSC

Schools have been back almost 3 weeks now and if your house is anything like mines the novelty of seeing friends again and a new class will have worn off.  I can’t be the only parent with a child who refuses to get up on a school day but will bounce out of bed at the crack of dawn at the weekend.  Long lie?  What is that?

Here are my 5 tips for making school days a little easier.

  1. Preparation:  Have everyone’s clothes ready the night before.  Hang school uniform together.  Tie, socks, underwear, the lot.  Having everything ready means no hunting for matching socks or missing shoes in the morning.
  2. Get Up Early:  Resist the temptation to hit snooze.  You know that saying, the early bird catches the worm?  Well this early bird doesn’t catch the worm but she does enjoy a quiet coffee on her own before the morning mayhem begins.
  3. Pre-Pack:  Pack school bag and lunch bag the night before, ready to go in the morning.  How many times have you spent 10 minutes searching the house for an elusive gym trainer?
  4. Leave With Time To Spare:  You know the score.  You’re half way to school when you realise you have forgotten a water bottle, gym bag, lunch money or all of the above.  You have to return back home leaving you rushing to school, now running late.  Leave early, enjoy the walk to school.  If you forget something you will have time to go back and collect it.
  5. TV Is Your Friend:  They are home from school having done “nothing” all day, they don’t want to talk, are grumpy and tired.  Don’t be hard on yourself, let them sit and watch t.v., recharge their batteries and chill out.  They will soon be back to their best!

What tips do you have that you would like to share for making school mornings easier?
